President Trump criticized Senator John Cornyn for delaying the confirmation of Todd Blanche as Attorney General.
In a separate announcement, Trump outlined a plan to bypass Senators Cornyn and Thom Tillis after they attempted to derail Blanche’s nomination.
The Senate Judiciary Committee postponed a vote on Blanche’s appointment, citing demands from the Department of Justice for language that would restrict the president’s agreement with the Internal Revenue Service.
Trump warned that he might withdraw Blanche’s nomination until Cornyn and Tillis leave office.
Both senators continued to demand changes, which stalled the confirmation process.
Senator Tillis criticized Trump, accusing him of following bad advice and supporting the so‑called weaponization fund.
Trump responded that the weaponization fund is dead, condemned Cornyn and Tillis for blocking Blanche’s confirmation, and pledged compensation for victims of alleged government abuse.
Senator Tillis reiterated opposition to the weaponization fund, stating that individuals who assaulted law enforcement should not receive payments, and pledged to work with Acting Attorney General Blanche to end the fund.
