Edinburgh’s Usher Hall throbbed with energy last night, hosting the 20th annual Forth Radio Awards – a celebration of the people and passions that define the city and the east of Scotland. The air crackled with anticipation as local heroes and established stars prepared to be recognized for their contributions.

The evening wasn’t just about accolades; it was a surprise-filled spectacle. Attendees, unaware of the planned entertainment, were captivated by unexpected performances from Scottish music icons Amy McDonald and Wet Wet Wet, alongside the electrifying energy of Claire Richards from the legendary Steps.

Beyond the glittering stage, a powerful undercurrent of generosity flowed through the event. A charity auction ignited spirited bidding, all in support of Forth’s Cash for Kids, a vital program dedicated to enriching the lives of children across Edinburgh, the Lothians, Fife, and Falkirk.

Amy McDonald, crowned Best Artist for her latest album and tour, delivered a rousing performance of her signature hits, “Mr Rock & Roll” and “This is the Life.” She expressed genuine gratitude to Forth 1 for their unwavering support, recalling fond memories of performing at the Usher Hall years prior.

The most poignant moment of the night came with the presentation of the Local Hero Award to Lisa and Euan Fleming, the driving force behind Edinburgh’s House of Hope. Their dedication to establishing Scotland’s first dedicated breast cancer wellbeing and support centre, and raising over £2 million for the cause, resonated deeply with everyone present.

The celebration of local excellence continued with awards recognizing The Crab and Lobster Shack as Best Restaurant, Pawel Zakrzewski for his contributions to Cash for Kids, David Barrett from Preston Tower Primary School as Best Teacher, Free Agent as Best Workplace, and The East Links Family Park as the region’s best attraction. Wet Wet Wet were also honored with a Music Recognition Award.

As the evening drew to a close, the energy remained high with electrifying performances from Angie Brown, Oceanic, and Robin S, transporting the audience back to the golden age of 80s and 90s dance music. The night was a resounding success, a testament to the spirit of community and the power of recognizing those who make a difference.
