A University of Oklahoma student faced a shocking consequence for expressing her deeply held beliefs in a class assignment. Samantha Fulnecky, a junior pre-med student, received a zero on a paper exploring gender norms, a grade accompanied by a sharply worded critique from her teaching assistant.

The assignment asked students to respond to a scholarly article examining gender identity and its impact on adolescents. Fulnecky approached the task as she had others, grounding her response in her Christian worldview. She articulated a perspective that affirmed traditional gender roles, referencing biblical foundations for her convictions.
