London Hospital Investigates Possible Ebola Case

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is monitoring a British resident who has contracted suspected Ebola after being exposed to the disease while working in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The individual, a humanitarian worker, was evacuated to a London hospital as a precautionary measure, but remains well with no current symptoms.

The UKHSA has stated that the risk to the general public remains low, and this individual has been transferred out of an abundance of caution.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo has been facing a substantially faster Ebola outbreak, which has so far claimed 930 lives, with 2,344 new cases reported over the weekend.

First declared in May, this is becoming the fastest-growing Ebola epidemic on record, with 20 confirmed cases outside the Democratic Republic of the Congo, resulting in two deaths.

Meanwhile, the disease is taking between two to 21 days to incubate, with patients needing to isolate during this time to prevent further transmission.

The outbreak has been declared an emergency by the World Health Organisation, with the risk of Ebola spreading to other countries remaining a concern.

Although the person in question has tested negative, those who may have come into contact with the patient are being traced to ensure public safety.

The general risk to Europe remains low, but the situation is being closely monitored by health authorities.

The recent outbreak has highlighted the need for effective public health measures to prevent the spread of the disease.

The UKHSA is working closely with international partners to monitor the situation and respond to any potential threats.
