The FBI is investigating an incident in which gunfire damaged the windows of an Arizona U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility earlier this week.
According to the FBI, one or more unidentified people fired multiple rounds at the Enforcement and Removal Operations building on North Central Avenue in Phoenix, resulting in no reported injuries.
The FBI's Phoenix Field Office said it is investigating the shooting, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon at the specified location.
ICE sources reported that several bullet holes could be seen in the building's windows, and video from the scene captured the apparent damage.
The FBI released a statement detailing the incident, saying that one or more unidentified people discharged rounds that struck the exterior of the structure in various parts of the building.
No injuries were reported in connection with the incident, and the motive behind the shooting has not been announced.
The FBI is asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact investigators by calling a specific number or submitting a tip online.
The incident comes as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced new measures to protect ICE personnel, including requiring every arrest team to have an officer wearing a body camera.
DHS cited a sharp rise in attacks against ICE personnel, with assaults increasing by more than 1,300% and vehicle attacks rising by more than 3,300%.
DHS emphasized the need to ensure all ICE law enforcement officers have body cameras nationwide, particularly in light of the increased attacks.
The agency also highlighted the role of media and sanctuary politicians in spreading "smears" about ICE law enforcement.
