Mullin Faces New Criticism After DHS Officials' Comments

Markwayne Mullin, the Secretary of Homeland Security, has come under scrutiny after reports emerged that he met with the American Business Immigration Coalition, a lobby representing roughly 1,700 employers that rely on immigrant labor.

The coalition, which has long advocated for the interests of businesses dependent on immigrant workers, convened at the DHS headquarters in early July. The meeting included officials from Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection but did not feature Mullin himself.

The timing of the gathering coincides with growing criticism from some House Republicans who support legislation critics say could effectively grant amnesty to certain illegal farm workers. The debate has intensified concerns among the MAGA base that the administration is softening its stance on mass deportation.

DHS officials stated that the discussion aimed to evaluate how the administration’s mass deportation campaign impacts business needs. The agency’s spokesperson declined to comment further, and coalition representatives chose not to provide public statements.

Conservative commentator Tomi Lahren sharply criticized the meetings, labeling them a sell‑out and questioning the administration’s commitment to an America‑first approach. Former Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino echoed the sentiment, warning that collaboration with business groups could harm taxpayers.

Mullin has faced additional backlash earlier this week after suspending certain ICE traffic stops, a move that drew criticism from both lawmakers and enforcement officials.

The controversy highlights the ongoing tension between strict immigration enforcement and the economic interests of employers who depend on immigrant labor.
