Fauci Files Fifth Amendment Claim Over Biden Autopen Pardon

Dr. Anthony Fauci appeared before a Senate committee on Wednesday, invoking the Fifth Amendment over 100 times and refusing to answer questions about his handling of the COVID‑19 pandemic.

House Oversight Committee Chairman highlighted that a presidential pardon would not exempt Fauci from providing testimony and criticized his choice to remain silent in front of the congressional panel.

The hearing follows the release of a diary Fauci kept during the pandemic, which had reportedly been withheld by a former health secretary. The entries detail his reflections on the crisis and the disease’s origins.

Some diary pages suggest Fauci may have taken credit for influencing the decision to close schools, a policy that sparked intense debate. In earlier testimony, he denied having a role in those closures, raising questions about the consistency of his statements.

The pardon issued at the end of the administration covered offenses related to Fauci’s service from 2014 onward, but its applicability to current testimony remains contested.

The committee intends to consider whether Fauci should be held in contempt of Congress, a charge that could carry a fine and up to one year of imprisonment.

The proceedings underscore continued scrutiny of Fauci’s actions and the broader implications for accountability within public health leadership.
