Man sentenced for murder after ominous remarks during dispute

A 44-year-old woman was killed after a confrontation over a stolen motorcycle escalated into gunfire outside a home in Oildale, California. The fatal shooting followed an armed confrontation that began over the missing vehicle.

The incident began when Luis Villachana, 51, discovered his motorcycle missing and sought it with two associates. Their search led them to a house where the motorcycle was stored, and Villachana entered to confront a roommate.

When the roommate refused to answer, Villachana assaulted him and fired a weapon at his feet. A second roommate’s father arrived and was struck by a second round, sustaining injuries.

Ruth Ann Cummings drove to the property in an SUV to rescue her husband. While inside the vehicle, she was shot and later died from her injuries.

The shooter threatened the occupants before opening fire, striking the SUV and killing Cummings.

Villachana fled the scene but was arrested a week later in Shafter. A jury convicted him of first‑degree murder, burglary, and attempted murder.

He faces a sentence of up to 50 years to life, plus an additional 24 years and four months, to be determined on August 14.
