Federal Judge Strikes Down Multiple Illinois Laws

A federal judge has issued a ruling that blocks several Illinois statutes which granted illegal immigrants preferential access to in‑state tuition, financial aid, and scholarships, finding them in conflict with federal law and the Supremacy Clause.

U.S. District Judge David W. Dugan denied the state’s motion to dismiss the case and granted partial summary judgment to the federal government, invalidating the tuition provisions, the Acevedo Act for community colleges, the RISE Act, and the Illinois DREAM Act scholarship program.
