The shift was immediate. Upon taking office in January of 2025, President Trump enacted the promised border security measures, and the results have been dramatic. Illegal crossings have plummeted, registering a staggering 99 percent decrease in the months that followed.

The preceding four years painted a vastly different picture. An estimated fifteen million or more individuals entered the country outside of legal channels, creating unprecedented strain on national resources and law enforcement. Border Patrol agents and state agencies, particularly the Texas Department of Public Safety, found themselves perpetually occupied with apprehension efforts.

Recently, a routine patrol in Starr County, Texas, highlighted the ongoing challenges and the critical role of specialized units. A Texas DPS K-9 team, led by Stark, was called upon to assist the Border Patrol in locating individuals concealed within the dense brush along the Rio Grande.

The pursuit was arduous. Stark and his handler tracked the group for over a mile, navigating the unforgiving terrain. Their persistence paid off, leading to the capture of fourteen individuals attempting to evade authorities in the remote area.

This wasn’t an isolated incident. Just weeks prior, the same DPS K-9 unit, working alongside the Border Mounted Patrol, successfully tracked and apprehended seven individuals hiding on private ranchlands in Maverick County. The K-9s covered eleven miles during that operation, demonstrating their remarkable endurance and tracking abilities.

These events underscore a fundamental principle enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. Article IV, Section 4, explicitly tasks the federal government with protecting states from invasion and guaranteeing a republican form of government. The wording is clear, the responsibility defined.

With the implementation of the new border policies, a sense of order is being restored. The focus has shifted from crisis management to upholding the rule of law, a change felt across the nation and along the border itself.
