Professional darts player Scott Williams issued a stark warning: steer clear of curling. The usually jovial athlete recounted a painful experience after attempting the Winter Olympic sport during an exhibition event in Switzerland.
Williams, known as “Shaggy,” was in Zurich with fellow professionals for a pre-tournament exhibition when he decided to try his hand at curling. He quickly discovered the sport demanded a skillset vastly different from throwing darts.
The six-foot-four athlete emphatically advised against anyone else attempting the seemingly graceful glide across the ice. He described the experience as “the most ridiculous sport” and “the most painful sport” he’s ever encountered.
In a candid TikTok video, Williams detailed the widespread discomfort he suffered. Beyond aching legs and a strained neck, he revealed an unexpected and rather unfortunate injury – a painful impact to, well, a sensitive area.
He jokingly attributed the latter to an accidental encounter with his zipper, but the overall message was clear: curling is not for the faint of heart, or, apparently, for tall darts players. The experience left him with a newfound respect for the athletes who compete at the highest level.
Despite the curling debacle, Williams remains focused on his primary sport. He recently competed in the Players Championships, reaching the second round of both events, and is preparing for further competition in Wigan.
While still seeking another Players Championship title to add to his 2022 victory – a remarkable achievement as a non-tour card holder – Williams’ performance demonstrates he’s a formidable force in the darts world, even if ice sports aren’t his forte.
