A complex web of organized crime, spanning provinces and reaching for international markets, continues to unravel with the latest developments in Project Road King. The investigation, initially concluding in September, targeted networks deeply involved in drug trafficking and sophisticated auto theft operations.
The original takedown was a significant blow, resulting in 30 arrests and a staggering 213 charges. Authorities seized a substantial quantity of drugs and firearms, alongside 38 stolen vehicles with a combined value exceeding $3.3 million.
But the operation didn’t stop there. Collaboration with the Canada Border Services Agency revealed a chilling extension of the criminal enterprise: 43 additional stolen vehicles, valued at over $3.8 million, were discovered at a British Columbia port, prepared for shipment overseas.
Recent weeks have seen further arrests, bringing the total to 33, as detectives relentlessly pursue remaining suspects. Three individuals – Keir McColl, Tudor Sopterian, and Dejan Zlojo – were taken into custody in February, facing a range of serious charges.
Keir McColl, 39, faces accusations including conspiracy to traffic stolen property, theft, intimidation through threats of violence, and the unlawful production of fentanyl, alongside drug possession and violations of a release order. Tudor Sopterian, 32, shares similar charges, reflecting the scope of his alleged involvement.
Dejan Zlojo, 43, is charged with conspiracy to traffic stolen property and conspiracy to commit theft. These charges underscore the intricate planning and coordination within the criminal network.
Authorities are actively searching for Nikola Scepanovic, 58, who is wanted on warrants for conspiracy to traffic stolen property and conspiracy to commit theft. His capture remains a priority for investigators.
Project Road King is far from over. Investigators anticipate further charges as they continue to dissect the network and uncover its full extent. The operation serves as a powerful example of how coordinated, intelligence-driven policing can dismantle complex criminal organizations.
The commitment to disrupting these enterprises and holding those responsible accountable remains unwavering. This case highlights the interconnected nature of drug trafficking and auto theft, and the determination to protect communities from their devastating impact.
