The character of Dani Rojas, radiating joy and embodying the belief that “football is life,” may soon see that fiction mirrored in reality. Cristo Fernández, the actor who brought Dani to life inTed Lasso, is reportedly vying for a professional football contract.
Fernández recently participated in a pre-season friendly for El Paso Locomotive, a USL Championship team, playing a full 30 minutes against New Mexico United. The club, founded in 2018 and competing since 2019, is now evaluating his potential.
This isn’t a sudden leap into the sport for Fernández. Long before captivating audiences with his on-screen enthusiasm, he nurtured a genuine passion for football as a youth. He honed his skills with the Tecos FC academy in Jalisco, Mexico.
A promising career on the pitch was unfortunately cut short at age 15 due to a knee injury. Forced to redirect his athletic ambitions, Fernández turned to acting while studying at the University of Guadalajara, a path that ultimately led him toTed Lasso.
He’s not the only member of theTed Lassocast with a footballing background. Kola Bokinni, who portrays the team’s captain Isaac McAdoo, also experienced the world of semi-professional football as an attacker.
The news arrives as anticipation builds for the fourth season ofTed Lasso. This season will shift its focus to the Lady Greyhounds, the women’s football team, promising a fresh dynamic for the beloved series.
Hannah Waddingham, who plays Rebecca Welton, hinted at an August release date during a recent appearance at the Baftas. She described the new season as “a whole different deal,” expressing excitement for what the writers have created.
Jason Sudeikis will once again star in and executive produce the show, ensuring the heart and humor that have definedTed Lassoremain central to the narrative. The story will evolve, but the spirit of the series will endure.
