Senator Adam Schiff announced plans to introduce a new War Powers Resolution aimed at curbing President Trump’s military actions against Iran.
The proposal comes hours after the sudden death of Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who died at age 71 following a cardiac emergency.
Schiff criticized the escalation in Iran, describing it as evidence of the administration’s lack of strategy and the ambiguous nature of diplomatic efforts.
He said the resolution would compel the Senate to vote on the president’s war powers and address the associated economic impacts.
Schiff also extended condolences to Graham’s family, noting the late senator’s humor and influence on policy debates.
Earlier, the Senate had approved a House‑passed war powers measure that limits the president’s authority in Iran, with bipartisan support from four Republican senators.
Two Republican senators, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, were absent from that vote.
Following the president’s declaration that a ceasefire was over, U.S. forces launched strikes against Iran over the weekend.
