In an intriguing political twist, Democrat House candidate Christina Bohannan has sparked controversy by poking fun at Iowa voters who stand up for women and girls, according to the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) spokeswoman Emily Tuttle's statement.
The comments come as transgender issues continue to divide Democrats, echoing the sentiments of public polling conducted by The New York Times/Ipsos in 2025. The poll showed that almost 8 in 10 Americans oppose male competitors participating in women's sports.
Approximately 70% of Democrats or Democrat-leaning respondents similarly harbor this viewpoint, according to the study.
In June, the Supreme Court upheld state-level prohibitions on men in women sports teams.
"Today's Supreme Court decision is a win for girls' sports," said Iowa lawmaker Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks in a statement following the ruling. "I will continue fighting to ensure every female athlete gets a fair chance."
By contrast, Bohannan did not publicly comment on the ruling.
