American Airlines is set to make it simpler for passengers to use TSA PreCheck Touchless ID by allowing opt‑in during the online check‑in process starting in mid‑August.
Touchless ID lets verified PreCheck members pass through security without presenting a wallet or boarding pass. A brief photo scan confirms identity, speeding entry into the dedicated lanes.
Until now, travelers had to register for the program through each airline’s website, uploading a passport photo and completing a biometric enrollment. The registration is valid for one year, after which a new enrollment is required.
Without prior enrollment, passengers are routed to the standard PreCheck lanes. Some airlines do not display the Touchless ID option on the boarding pass if registration is delayed until the day of the flight.
The new check‑in feature will enable passengers to add the program while completing their reservation online. A passport will still be needed to provide the necessary information during registration.
Airlines such as United, Delta, Southwest, Alaska, and Hawaiian also support the Touchless ID program, so travelers can register with each carrier they use. Early enrollment ensures seamless access to the lanes on future flights.
Participation remains optional for all PreCheck members. The program now operates at more than 60 major airports, covering most hubs of the largest U.S. carriers.
With the expanded availability and easier enrollment, passengers can enjoy faster, more convenient security checks at numerous airports across the country.
