Woman Gains Significant Settlement Following Misdiagnosed Bladder

A major medical mishap occurred at Northern Light Inland Hospital in Waterville, resulting in a $17 million settlement for Emily Mitchell, who was left with an irreversible injury after a surgical error during a procedure to address a benign ovarian cyst.

The settlement was handed down by a Kennebec County jury following a two-week trial focusing on medical malpractice.

The jury found Northern Light Inland Hospital and Northern Light Health liable for the damages, encompassing past and future medical costs, suffering, reduced quality of life, emotional distress, and permanent impairment.

For our clients, this victory represents more than just a legal win—it's the long-awaited closure they've been seeking.

"This verdict doesn't reverse the pain our clients have endured, but it does provide them with something they haven't had for an extended period: closure," states attorney Susan A. Faunce in a statement.

The verdict allows Mitchell and her family to move forward, acknowledging the tragedy that happened to her, which has haunted them for quite some time.
