Manchester United are in desperate need of midfield reinforcements, according to Gary Neville.
The Red Devils failed to address their central midfield weaknesses last summer, despite spending big on attacking players like Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo for a combined fee of around £200m. This summer, Manchester United's new head coach Michael Carrick has identified midfield as a top priority.
Neville recently highlighted the team's desperation for midfield reinforcements in a Q&A session. When asked which Liverpool player he would most like to see at Manchester United, Neville said he would 'take' Liverpool star Gravenberch at Old Trafford.
Neville explained that Gravenberch is the best of the three midfielders Manchester United would need, and that the team needs a midfielder desperately. He also stated that while Liverpool's frontline has potential, he wouldn't swap them over Mbeumo, Cunha, Bruno, and Amad.
In a separate question, Neville was asked which manager in world football he would most like to have played under. He immediately replied that it would be Jurgen Klopp, citing the German manager's style of football and personality.
Neville praised Klopp's ability to create an electric atmosphere on the pitch, particularly during the period when Liverpool had Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino at their peak. He described the trio as a 'proper front three' that was 'devastating' to opposing teams.
Klopp is currently in talks to succeed Julian Nagelsmann as Germany boss, following the team's shock World Cup exit at the hands of Paraguay. Neville expressed doubts about Klopp's ability to make Germany successful once again, citing the team's lack of top-level talent and the challenges of working with a fixed pool of players.
