Man City Eye Shock Return of Former Player, Two Years Before

Manchester City are in the market for a new backup goalkeeper, and their sights are set on Argentina international Gerónimo Rulli. The Premier League champions are looking to fill the vacancy left by James Trafford, who is reportedly closing in on a move to Leeds United.

Rulli's experience and caliber make him an attractive option for City, who are eager to strengthen their goalkeeping department ahead of the new campaign. The Argentine goalkeeper is said to be keen on the move, and Olympique Marseille is aware of City's interest.

Rulli's first stint at Manchester City was a brief one, lasting only a few months in 2016. He joined the club from Deportivo Maldonado after impressing during a two-year loan spell at Real Sociedad. However, he was immediately loaned back to Real Sociedad as part of a pre-arranged agreement, and the club later completed a permanent transfer for him in January 2017.

Since leaving England, Rulli has built an impressive resume, enjoying spells with Real Sociedad, Villarreal, Ajax, and Marseille while winning major honors, including the UEFA Europa League and the FIFA World Cup with Argentina.

The 34-year-old's willingness to make the move gives Manchester City substantial momentum in negotiations as they look to reach an agreement with Marseille. A move for Rulli would mark a remarkable full-circle moment in his career, bringing him back to the club where he originally started.
