The University of Chicago campus witnessed a tragic event on Thursday evening, resulting in the shooting deaths of two individuals.
A 27-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man, both victims of the shooting, were found inside a vehicle in the 5900 block of South Ellis, near the Midway Plaisance Ice Skating Rink and Harper Quad.
According to police, the two victims had sustained gunshot wounds to the head, and despite being transported to the university hospital in critical condition, they were later pronounced dead.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting, including any potential connection the victims may have had to the university, remain unclear at this time.
A firearm was recovered from the scene, and an investigation is ongoing into the incident.
Video footage of the scene suggests that the vehicle involved may have crashed either during or after the shooting.
The Chicago Police Department is leading the investigation, and officials have stated that they cannot confirm details about the incident at this time.
