Apple warns of limited new iPhone availability in 2024

Apple is set to host its annual fall event in August, where it is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and a new folding iPhone Ultra.

During the third‑quarter earnings call, the company’s chief executive warned that supply constraints are projected to increase sharply in the coming quarter, signaling potentially limited availability of the new devices.

The shortage is attributed to an unusually strong product cycle that generated demand beyond expectations, rather than any partner or supplier failure. Concurrently, the market price for memory chips has risen, making RAM both costly and scarce.

To offset the higher component costs, Apple raised prices for certain products last month while keeping iPhone list prices unchanged. However, the company indicated that iPhone pricing is likely to rise when the new models launch in September.

Analysts anticipate robust consumer interest, particularly for the iPhone Ultra. Persistent RAM constraints could create a supply bottleneck, leading to rapid sell‑outs and extended back‑order periods for the latest models.
