Urban Poor Press Marcos on Housing Prior to SONA, Evictions Loom
Title: KADAMAY Press Conference: Urgent Call for Housing Rights Amid Rising Poverty Concerns The KADAMAY group has expressed concerns about the Marcos administration's approach to housing, livelihood, and basic services for urban poor communities. Speaking during the State of the Urban Poor forum held on July 24, KADAMAY Secretary General Eufemia Doringo highlighted the challenges faced by low-income families. KADAMAY emphasized the importance of advocating for a comprehensive housing program, emphasizing the fundamental right to housing for the urban poor. With President Marcos set to deliver his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 25, the group seeks to broaden public understanding of their situation and call for nationwide support. Secretary Doringo urged urban poor communities to unite and stand together to defend their right to housing. "Whatever the government does, the urban poor have a firsthand understanding, and we will not back down," she stated. KADAMAY will continue to hold monthly State of the Urban Poor activities to address the concerns faced by low-income families, including soaring prices for food, electricity, water, and fuel.
