Melania Trump announced that five additional Ukrainian and Russian children have been reunited with their families, bringing the program’s total to roughly 30 children placed back with loved ones.
She stressed that safeguarding children must take precedence over diplomatic disagreements, describing each reunion as a testament to compassion and family resilience amid war.
The reunification initiative launched in October 2025 following a personal note delivered to the Russian president during an August summit in Alaska.
Since its inception, the effort has coordinated with both Russian and Ukrainian authorities to facilitate the safe return of children to their communities.
The conflict that began in February 2022 has resulted in thousands of civilian casualties, including children, with the previous year marking the highest death toll recorded.
The latest group of returnees is the first set of children to be brought home since April.
Trump praised the cooperation of both nations, acknowledging that her involvement alone cannot achieve the mission’s goals.
She called for continued joint action to improve the lives of those displaced by the war.
