The Social Security System (SSS) is set to launch an energy sustainability loan program for residential solar panel installation by the end of the year. The program will offer credit of up to P400,000 to an initial 100,000 households.
SSS President Robert Joseph M. de Claro announced the proposed Energy Sustainability Loan, which will initially cover 100,000 households. The loan guidelines are currently pending.
The program aims to target 100,000 households that can benefit from this initiative, according to Mr. de Claro. He plans to announce the program in September and implement it by the end of this year or early next year.
The SSS is allocating P40 billion for the program, which will have a maximum repayment period of four to seven years. The interest rate will be set slightly above the Treasury bill rate, approximately 5.5%.
The SSS will evaluate next year whether it has the resources to grant another pension increase. Mr. de Claro expressed that the focus is on enhancing benefits rather than increasing pension rates.
It's worth noting that the SSS previously approved a three-year pension increase in July 2025, allowing pensioners to receive annual increases every September through 2027.
