AboitizPower to develop P8.44-billion Ilocos wind farm project

AboitizPower is seeking to develop an 8.44-billion-peso wind farm in Bangui, Ilocos Norte, according to documents filed with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

The proposed wind power project, developed by Luzon Cleanergy Generation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Aboitiz Renewables, would have a capacity of 132.8 megawatts.

The company claims that the proposed wind power plant will help augment the demand for reliable and affordable power supply, and will contribute to national development by supplying electricity to households and businesses.

The proposed wind farm would span eight municipalities in Ilocos Norte and deploy 17 wind turbine generators, each with a rated capacity of 8 megawatts.

The project's renewable energy service contract covers 3,321 hectares, of which 656.96 hectares will be developed.

Luzon Cleanergy Generation is targeting the start of construction in the second quarter of 2029, with commercial operations scheduled for the second quarter of 2031.

The project is scheduled for public scoping on July 22, an early stage of the environmental impact assessment process during which the project proponent presents an overview of the proposed development and gathers issues and concerns from stakeholders.

Aboitiz Renewables is the renewable energy arm of AboitizPower and develops and operates a diversified portfolio of renewable energy projects spanning solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, and battery energy storage systems.

The company has more than 1,000 megawatts of renewable energy capacity in the pipeline.

AboitizPower has earmarked 62 billion pesos in capital expenditures for 2026 to fund its pipeline of renewable energy and battery energy storage system projects.

The Aboitiz group is the country's largest power producer, accounting for a 24.3% market share with an aggregate installed capacity of 6,850.63 megawatts.
