The United States military launched retaliatory strikes against Iran on Saturday evening, following the deaths of two US service members in action in Jordan.
Two US service members were killed in action at Jordanian bases this week, with one still missing. Central Command reported that the two service members were killed on July 17 while CENTCOM and partner forces defended against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks.
Additionally, four American service members were medically evacuated to Jordanian hospitals, where they have since been discharged. Other personnel who were evaluated for minor injuries have returned to duty, according to Central Command.

Out of respect for the families, Central Command will withhold additional information, including the identities of the fallen warriors, until 24 hours after the next of kin have been notified.
In a statement, Central Command said that US forces began launching new airstrikes against Iran at 6 p.m. ET, at the direction of the Commander in Chief. The strikes are designed to further degrade Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and swiftly punish Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces who launched attacks against American service members in Jordan last night.
