SM Prime launches Xiamen hotel integrated with flagship mall

SM Prime Holdings has opened its first hotel in China, marking a strategic expansion of its operations beyond retail development in the country.

The new voco Xiamen SM City is directly connected to SM City Xiamen, the company’s first property in China, which opened 25 years ago.

The hotel represents a 450 million RMB investment, equivalent to approximately 4.10 billion pesos, and began operations in June.

It features 325 rooms, with sizes ranging from 32 square meters to 120 square meters.

The property is situated roughly 15 minutes from Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport and lies close to Xiamen Railway Station and Metro Line 1 Wushipu Station.

Operated under InterContinental Hotels Group’s voco brand, the hotel is positioned to serve the premium travel market.

The launch follows China’s approval of a five-year plan to strengthen its tourism industry through 2030 by broadening offerings and increasing consumption.

China is forecast to become the world’s largest tourism market, with the sector expected to reach 3.5 trillion dollars by 2036.

The development transforms the surrounding complex into a comprehensive lifestyle destination aimed at both tourists and local visitors.
