In the early hours, a fire engulfed the Radio Television Caraibes headquarters in downtown Port-au-Prince, close to the National Palace.
Armed gangs were identified as the cause of the blaze, which targeted the station’s downtown office that still housed key broadcasting equipment and a series of television and radio studios.
The station had previously relocated its main operations to the suburb of Petionville amid rising gang activity, but the destruction of the downtown facilities has disrupted local media coverage and prompted an investigation into the incident.
