Davao del Sur Fish Ports Reach Completion Milestone, Targeting 2027 Finish Date

The Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) announced on Monday that nearly P190 million has been invested in two municipal fish ports in Davao del Sur that are scheduled for completion next year.

Agriculture officials inspected the ongoing projects in the municipalities of Malalag and Santa Cruz, Davao del Sur, as part of the PFDA's efforts to modernize the country's fish ports.

The first phase of the Malalag Municipal Fish Port was completed at the end of 2024, with the second phase targeted for completion in the first quarter of 2027.

The expansion of the Malalag port will include a trading hall, a warehouse, an administration building, and other support facilities aimed at improving fish handling, storage, and distribution.

The Santa Cruz Municipal Fish Port is expected to be finished in early 2027 and will feature a market hall, an ice stall, a food hub, an administration building, access roads, and other infrastructure.

According to officials, modern fish ports like the ones being constructed are investments in food security and are expected to generate jobs during construction and operations.

By reducing post-harvest losses and improving the movement of fish from coastal communities to consumers, the new facilities will strengthen the country's food supply and help fisherfolk earn more from every catch.

The PFDA remains committed to developing modern fish ports to enhance post-market efficiency, improve market access, and serve as catalysts for economic development in coastal communities.
