Stephen, the victor ofTraitors, revealed a surprising reason for avoiding one of the show’s most talked-about moments: the shower scene. Initially, he’d given the production team a tentative yes, unaware of the formidable competition he was about to encounter.
His perspective shifted dramatically after meeting his fellow contestants at the Scottish castle. The realization dawned on him as he assessed the physical prowess and attractiveness of his co-stars.
“I saw Jack’s a PT, Ross is a PT, Sam’s absolutely gorgeous, Matty’s absolutely gorgeous,” Stephen explained on Radio 1. The sheer caliber of his fellow cast members prompted a swift change of heart.
He immediately approached the producers, retracting his earlier agreement. “I can’t do a shower scene, I’m really sorry,” he confessed, acknowledging the intimidating presence of the other men.
The radio host, Greg James, playfully questioned the BBC’s apparent enthusiasm for these scenes, wondering about the underlying motivation. Stephen, however, suggested it was a matter of personal choice.
“I don’t think they push it,” he clarified, “but I think if people want to flaunt themselves in that manner, then they’re more than welcome to.”

The tradition of the shower scene dates back to the firstCelebrity Traitors, where Olympic diver Tom Daley famously participated. He described the experience as “surreal” and playfully referenced joining the “Freddie Fraser shower club.”
Daley also clarified that the scene wasn’t entirely what it seemed, assuring viewers he wasn’t completely nude under the running water and bright lights of the BBC production. He embraced the playful, campy nature of the show.
