Former Arsenal player Jeremie Aliadiere believes the club made a mistake in not loaning out young talent Ethan Nwaneri during the recent transfer window. He envisions a particularly bright future for the midfielder, specifically within the dynamic landscape of French football.
Aliadiere, who thrived during his time with Lorient in Ligue 1, is convinced Nwaneri’s style of play is a perfect match for the French top flight. He suggests a six-month loan to a prominent club abroad would have been invaluable for the player’s development, offering crucial experience and consistent playing time.
“If I could have given him any advice,” Aliadiere stated, “I would have told him to seek a loan, but to a top club in a top division, and ideally, abroad. I truly believe Ligue 1 would suit him exceptionally well, and he’d be a resounding success there. I have absolutely no doubt.”
The conversation then turned to another promising Arsenal academy graduate, Myles Lewis-Skelly. Despite a breakthrough season last year, Lewis-Skelly has found opportunities limited this campaign, starting only one Premier League match.
Aliadiere suggests a temporary move away from the Emirates could also have benefitted Lewis-Skelly, allowing him to secure regular game time and maintain his momentum. The competition for places at Arsenal, while a sign of strength, is undeniably hindering the young player’s progress.
The situation is particularly poignant given Lewis-Skelly’s previous inclusion in the England squad. With the World Cup looming, the 19-year-old may be questioning how to force his way back into international contention, a challenge made significantly harder by a lack of consistent playing opportunities.
Aliadiere understands Arteta’s desire to keep a large squad given the demanding schedule, but emphasizes the importance of individual player development. For talents like Lewis-Skelly, a loan could be the catalyst needed to reignite their careers and fulfill their potential.
