According to reports originating from the Tasnim News Agency, linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the drone successfully relayed photographs to its command center. The mission was characterized as “routine and lawful,” conducted within internationally recognized waters, focused on observation and image gathering.
The U.S. military paints a starkly different picture. Officials state the unmanned Iranian Shahed-139 drone made an “aggressive approach” toward the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, raising immediate concerns about its intentions. The carrier was positioned roughly 500 miles from the Iranian coastline at the time.
Despite attempts by U.S. forces to de-escalate the situation, the drone continued its trajectory toward the ship. An F-35C fighter jet, operating from the Abraham Lincoln, ultimately shot down the drone in what officials described as an act of self-defense, protecting the carrier and its crew.
