The night began like any other for Cadi Parry, a young woman cherished by all who knew her, as she went out with a friend to Bangor. Little did anyone suspect the devastating turn events would take, a tragedy rooted in the complexities of a troubled relationship.
Darren Evans-Tomlinson, whose son was Cadi’s boyfriend, received a late-night call requesting he provide Cadi with a ride. His son, however, was miles away in Liverpool, adding another layer of confusion to the unfolding situation.
Cadi was visibly distraught, repeatedly asking, “Why has he done this to me?” and desperately asserting her devotion. Mr. Evans-Tomlinson and his wife, Jenny, attempted to comfort her as she changed into more comfortable clothes, hoping to ease her distress.
He briefly considered taking Cadi with him when he went to collect his daughter, believing fresh air might help, but she seemed calmer at that moment. That eight-minute journey would become a haunting memory.
A short time later, Jenny went to check on Cadi and discovered her unresponsive. Immediate CPR was performed while they desperately waited for the ambulance, a frantic race against time.
Rushed to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, doctors found Cadi had suffered a ‘significant brain injury.’ Despite their efforts, her condition deteriorated rapidly, and life support was withdrawn on November 4th, marking the heartbreaking end of her young life.
A post-mortem examination revealed a level of alcohol in Cadi’s system below the legal limit for driving, alongside evidence of past cocaine use, though not recent. The details painted a picture of a vulnerable state.
Her mother, Heidi Parry, described Cadi as a “cherished princess” with a radiant spirit, a light that touched everyone she met. The family’s grief was immeasurable, their world shattered by the sudden loss.
The inquest determined the medical cause of death as hypoxic brain injury resulting from self-suspension. The coroner acknowledged Cadi had received upsetting news regarding her boyfriend and that the relationship had been fraught with difficulty.
While acknowledging the presence of alcohol and cocaine, the coroner stopped short of concluding a deliberate attempt to end her life. Instead, the death was ruled an unintended consequence of a deliberate act, a tragic outcome born of impaired judgment and profound emotional pain.
The coroner stated Cadi’s actions suggested a desperate act, but not a desire for death itself. It was a heartbreaking conclusion, highlighting the devastating impact of hidden struggles and the fragility of life.
