A young life, brimming with promise, was tragically cut short in the early hours of Sunday morning. Lorik Abazi, just 22 years old, was found stabbed on Hesterman Way in Croydon, near the Ikea store, leaving a community reeling and a family shattered.

Lorik is remembered by those who knew him as a “caring and smart” individual with a quick wit and a bright future stretching before him. His family, in a heartbreaking statement, described the immense void his loss has created, a light extinguished far too soon.

The scene unfolded at approximately 1:15 am, revealing a violent confrontation that claimed Lorik’s life and injured two others. Seven individuals have been taken into custody as detectives piece together the events of that night.

Detectives investigating a fatal stabbing in Croydon have named the victim. Police were called to Hesterman Way, Croydon, at around 01:15hrs on Sunday, 15 February following reports of a stabbing. Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service and found three men with stab wounds. A 22-year-old man was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service, where despite the efforts of medical staff he sadly died. Officers are now in a position to name the victim as Lorik Abazi, from Croydon. His family are being supported by specialist officers.

Among those arrested are two women, both 25, and a 28-year-old man, all held on suspicion of murder. Two men, both 21, who were hospitalized with injuries – one potentially life-altering – have also been arrested on suspicion of affray.

Further arrests include two women, aged 21 and 22, also on suspicion of affray. While the 21-year-old has been released on bail pending further investigation, the 22-year-old remains in police custody.

Chief Superintendent Nick Blackburn expressed his deepest sympathies to Lorik’s family and friends, acknowledging the unimaginable pain they are enduring. He assured the public that detectives are working tirelessly to uncover the truth and bring those responsible to justice.

The man with potential life-threatening injuries remains in hospital while the other has been taken into police custody. Two women, both aged 25, and a 28-year-old man, have been arrested on suspicion of murder on the afternoon of Sunday, 15 February and remain in police custody. Detective Chief Inspector Alex Gammampila, who is leading this investigation has said: ???Our thoughts remain with the victim???s family at this hugely difficult time, we cannot begin to imagine what they are going through. ???We understand that this incident will be distressing to the local community. My officers continue to work at pace to unpick the events that unfolded and to apprehend those responsible. We urge anyone who may have knowledge of the incident to get in touch with police immediately.??? Additionally, two further women, aged 21 and 22, were later arrested on suspicion of affray. The 21-year-old woman has been bailed while enquiries continue and the 22-year-old woman remains in police custody. A crime scene remains in place and officers are continuing to make enquiries.
