BORDER CHAOS AVERTED: New Tech Blitz Speeds Travel NOW!

For travelers constantly battling airport congestion, a subtle but significant shift is underway. A new wave of automated security lanes, known as e-gates, are quietly transforming the experience at 37 airports nationwide, dramatically speeding up the process for Clear members.

The evolution of Clear began with a simple premise: bypass the long TSA lines. Initially, members would check in, then step aside for biometric verification at a separate kiosk, relying on a Clear employee to guide them to the front of the security queue. While helpful, this system wasn’t without its frustrations.

Bottlenecks often formed at the kiosks, particularly during peak travel times at major hubs. Staff availability became a critical factor, and delays could negate the very benefit Clear promised. Recognizing these pain points, the company embarked on a technological overhaul.

The new e-gate system streamlines everything. Passengers now simply walk through a dedicated lane, pausing for a mere few seconds while facial recognition technology instantly confirms their Clear membership. Verification happens in five seconds or less, creating a seamless and remarkably efficient passage.

This isn’t a future promise; it’s happening now. The rollout, which gained momentum in late 2025, has already reached over three dozen airports, and the expansion continues. By the end of 2026, every airport offering Clear will feature these advanced e-gates.

Clear provides a paid service allowing members to bypass standard TSA queues and proceed directly to carry-on baggage screening. The true power of Clear is often unlocked when combined with TSA PreCheck, creating an even faster and more convenient travel experience.

An annual Clear+ membership currently costs $209. However, savvy travelers can often offset this expense through travel rewards programs. Certain credit cards offer statement credits to cover the annual fee, effectively making Clear a cost-free benefit.

Airline loyalty programs also offer unique pricing structures. Elite members of Delta Air Lines and United Airlines can enjoy Clear+ membership at no cost, while lower-tier elites and general members of various airline programs can access the service at discounted annual rates.

The rapid deployment of Clear’s e-gates coincides with another exciting development in airport security. The TSA is also introducing its own touchless ID system for PreCheck members, aiming to further accelerate the screening process at over 60 airports by spring. This complimentary upgrade offers another avenue for a smoother journey.

The competition between Clear and the TSA’s innovations is ultimately a win for travelers. Both initiatives are focused on reducing wait times and enhancing the overall airport experience, promising a future where security checkpoints are far less stressful and time-consuming.
