A wave of brazen break-ins has shaken businesses near Toronto’s Queen’s Park, leaving police urgently seeking the public’s help to identify a suspect.
On Thursday, authorities responded to three separate incidents in the Bay St.-Wellesley St. W. area, each marked by a violent entry. The suspect didn’t attempt subtlety, instead shattering front entrances with a specialized glass-breaking tool.
The target was consistently the cash register, swiftly stolen from two of the businesses before police could arrive on scene. The suspect vanished each time, leaving behind only broken glass and unanswered questions.
Investigators describe the individual as a male of medium build, but it’s the distinctive clothing that may hold the key to identification. He was last seen wearing a heavily marked black winter jacket – covered in white paint stains and featuring a white and red logo patch on the right arm.
Beneath the jacket, he wore a black hooded sweater and concealed his face with a black patterned bandana. Black pants and black shoes with prominent white laces completed the ensemble, creating a memorable, if unsettling, image.
In a separate incident downtown, tensions flared during a demonstration near Wellington St. W. and Simcoe St. A man was arrested for allegedly damaging a building, sparking further conflict.
As officers moved to make the arrest, a second man intervened, allegedly assaulting two police officers in an attempt to obstruct justice. The situation quickly escalated, resulting in multiple charges.
Rong Cong, 20, now faces charges related to mischief and property damage. Syed Hussan, 41, is accused of assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest, and obstructing police duties.
Authorities are continuing to investigate both the break-in spree and the downtown altercation, urging anyone with information to come forward. The pursuit of justice relies on the vigilance of the community.
