Venezuelans defeat Blu Girls in Women's Softball World Cup

The Philippine Blu Girls suffered a tough 8-5 defeat at the hands of Venezuela on Wednesday, in the opening game of the WBSC Women's Softball World Cup group stage in Lima, Peru.

The Filipino pitchers struggled to contain the Venezuelan team's heavy batting, allowing 10 hits that resulted in eight decisive runs. The loss puts the Blu Girls in a challenging position, but they remain in contention for a spot in the playoff round.

To advance, the team must finish in the top four of their six-nation Group B. The Blu Girls face a tough schedule ahead, with matches against Japan, Puerto Rico, Great Britain, and Peru.

The team's president expressed confidence in their ability to bounce back from the loss, citing their resilience in the face of adversity. The Blu Girls are looking to finish in the top two of their group to secure a spot in next year's World Cup finals in Australia.

A top-two finish would also book a spot for the 2028 LA Olympics for the eventual champion. The Venezuelan team's strong batting was a key factor in their victory, with their opponents managing to score only five runs.

The Blu Girls attempted a late comeback, but ultimately fell short, scoring only two runs in the final inning. The team will look to regroup and come back stronger in their upcoming games.
