Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance welcomed a baby boy on the morning of July 19.
The Vance family announced that Alec Neel Vance was born earlier that day, describing Usha and the newborn as happy and healthy.
The couple's three older children, ages 4 to 9, are reportedly overjoyed to meet their younger brother.
Alec is the fourth child for the Vances and the first baby born to a sitting vice president's family in over a century.
The last such birth occurred in 1870, when the family of then-Vice President Schuyler Colfax welcomed a son during the administration of President Ulysses S. Grant.
The Vances expressed gratitude to the medical teams at Walter Reed Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit for their care.
Usha Vance had announced the pregnancy in January, with a due date in late July.
Earlier this year, the vice president indicated he did not expect to take parental leave following the birth.
During a March event in Michigan, Vance recounted persuading his wife to expand their family as he prepared to assume national office.
