Trans Student Assaults Officers After Viral Campus Confrontation

A University of Central Florida student was arrested in February 2025 following a confrontation with campus police that was captured on body camera footage.

The incident involved 27-year-old Jarrett Vick, who was encountered by an officer inside a campus building during a stolen vehicle investigation.

Body camera video shows Vick shouting at the officer about other individuals being present in the building before the situation escalated.

The officer called for backup after Vick became agitated and refused commands to calm down. During the exchange, Vick demanded the use of specific pronouns while continuing to argue with police.

A second officer arrived as Vick resisted attempts to take him into custody. The student physically struggled with officers and was eventually tasered and restrained.

Police noted that Vick threw punches and kicks during the encounter. Officers discussed the possibility of a involuntary psychiatric evaluation under the Baker Act.

Vick was charged with battery on law enforcement, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. Arrest records listed the student as male.

The suspect pleaded not guilty to all charges. Court records indicate the case was closed following a final appearance in January.
