The Philippines has reported a significant decline in COVID-19 cases, with 1,532 confirmed cases recorded from January 4 to July 11. This represents a 70% decrease compared to the same period last year. The Department of Health continues to monitor the disease through its regional counterparts.
The sharp decline in cases is a welcome development, with the total number of cases logged during the same period in 2025 being 5,070. The Department of Health remains vigilant, closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation through its regional offices and local government partners.
The department also continues to conduct disease surveillance and response mechanisms nationwide. COVID-19 can present without symptoms or as a mild to severe respiratory illness, with common symptoms including fever, chills, sore throat, and cough.
Other symptoms of COVID-19 may include a runny or clogged nose, headache, fatigue, muscle aches, shortness of breath, and nausea. In some cases, symptoms may also include vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and loss of or changes in taste or smell.
Despite the low number of cases, the Department of Health continues to urge the public to practice simple health habits to prevent the spread of the virus and other respiratory illnesses. These habits include handwashing, covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, and maintaining proper hygiene.
Individuals experiencing symptoms of respiratory illness are advised to seek medical consultation at the nearest health center or healthcare facility. They are also encouraged to follow appropriate health measures to prevent further transmission.
As of January 8, the country has reported a total of 4.1 million COVID-19 cases, with 66,864 deaths. The pandemic had a significant impact on the country, forcing it to undergo various forms of community quarantine for over a year and overwhelming the public health system.
