GOP Lawmaker Under House Ethics Review Denies Baseless Allegations

The House Committee on Ethics announced a review of allegations involving Rep. Lance Gooden, a Republican from Texas.

Gooden described the accusations as baseless, characterizing them as finance‑related and denying any misconduct.

The committee indicated it is extending a review of a matter reported to the Office of Congressional Conduct on June 10, 2026, serving as a preliminary step before a potential full investigation.

The committee pledged to determine its course of action by November 9.

The Office of Congressional Conduct operates as an independent, nonpartisan body that examines complaints against members of the House, their staff, and officers, and may refer cases to the Ethics Committee.

Its investigative scope includes allegations concerning earmarks, travel expenses, financial disclosures, legal expense funds, and related issues.

At this stage the Ethics Committee is conducting a preliminary inquiry; lawmakers must decide whether to advance the matter to a formal investigation by an investigatory subcommittee.
