Charlotte Rose-Anne Hill, 38, died after a severe burn injury sustained during a backyard barbecue in Sydney. The accident occurred while Hill was preparing a grill for her two children, 11‑year‑old Noah and 7‑year‑old Billie‑Rose, who were on winter break from school.
While setting up the grill, a fire erupted, exposing the children to the flames. Billie‑Rose screamed to alert her father, Matt Tierney, and Noah used his jacket in an attempt to smother the blaze. Tierney administered first aid before transporting Hill to a local hospital.
Hill suffered extensive burns to her hand and face. She was transferred to a specialized facility for more comprehensive care, where she underwent emergency surgery. Initial reports indicated she was responsive and able to communicate with her children during recovery.
Shortly after the operation, medical staff discovered a serious complication that left Hill unresponsive. Despite intensive treatment, her condition deteriorated, and she passed away on July 10.
Family members expressed profound grief, describing Hill’s loss as a devastating blow. The tragedy has left her young children without a mother, a reality they are now forced to confront.
