Kansas City Chiefs Staffer's Son Arrested in High-Profile Incident

Kansas City Chiefs Staffer's Son Arrested in High-Profile Incident

Elijah Zion Bieniemy, 27, was arrested after authorities say he shot his mother, Mia Bieniemy, inside the family residence in Ashburn, Virginia.

Deputies from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 7:32 p.m. call on Sunday reporting a shooting at the 20000 block of Northpark Drive in the One Loudoun neighborhood.

Officers found 57‑year‑old Mia Bieniemy with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and arm. She called 911 herself and was transported to a hospital, where she remains in stable condition.

Elijah Bieniemy was taken into custody and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm inside a dwelling.

He is being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

Eric Bieniemy, the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator, was at the team’s training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri, when the incident occurred and has stepped away from his duties to be with his family.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid expressed the organization’s support, noting the family’s need for time and privacy while emphasizing that Mia’s condition is stable.

The team released a statement indicating awareness of the incident, declining further comment out of respect for the family’s privacy, and extending thoughts and prayers.

Eric Bieniemy previously served as offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders and has maintained a long association with the Chiefs organization; the Ashburn home was purchased during his tenure coaching in the Washington, D.C., area.
