Tom Cruise's Physically Shattering Transformation for Role Revealed

Tom Cruise's Physically Shattering Transformation for Role Revealed

The highly anticipated trailer for Tom Cruise's new movie, Digger, has finally been released, showcasing the actor's dramatic transformation for his role as eccentric billionaire Digger Rockwell. The film, directed by Alejandro G Iñárritu, has been positioned as a career pinnacle for Cruise, with many fans believing it will finally earn him an acting Oscar.

Cruise, 64, looks worlds apart from his usual self, sporting a pot belly, messy grey hair, and a broad Southern US drawl. This is the biggest physical makeover the actor has undergone since his Tropic Thunder days, where he wore a fat suit and bald cap for his role as Les Grossman. The trailer positions the protagonist as "the most powerful man in the world," who must "race to prove he is humanity's saviour before the disaster he unleashed destroys everything."

The film's storyline follows Digger as he navigates a catastrophic environmental disaster, dismissing the severity of a five-foot crack on a glacier in Greenland and subsequently facing the consequences of his actions. The trailer also features Cruise dancing with a spade, a reference that has previously been teased, as well as scenes of him being reprimanded by the president's advisor, Ganesh, played by Riz Ahmed.

Fans are thrilled to see Cruise taking on a new challenge, with many comparing the movie to Dr. Strangelove. The film's cast includes Sandra Hüller, Jesse Plemons, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Sophie Wilde, with Iñárritu writing the screenplay alongside Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolás Giacobone, and Sabina Berman.

Cruise has said that he's never been in "something that could challenge me in this way," and director Iñárritu has praised Cruise's transformation, saying that it took the actor 40 years to become his character. The film is set to release in cinemas on October 2, 2026.
