Daniel Ogama Adongo, a 37‑year‑old Kenyan former linebacker for the Indianapolis Colts, has been removed from the United States.
Adongo’s immigration status began to deteriorate after he overstayed his visa in 2016. His criminal record, which includes multiple arrests over the past decade, contributed to the decision to expel him.
In 2020, he was convicted of criminal mischief with damage and sentenced to one year in prison. Additional arrests for felony intimidation, battery and disorderly conduct have also been recorded.
A Department of Justice immigration judge ordered his removal in March, a directive that was carried out on June 20.
The removal follows the Laken Riley Act, which requires that individuals who are illegally present and convicted of certain offenses be detained without bond.
Officials described Adongo as a threat to the community, noting that the enforcement of immigration law applies equally to all, including former professional athletes.
The agency highlighted that a majority of its arrests involve illegal aliens charged or convicted of crimes and that more than three million individuals have been deported to date.
Adongo’s expulsion underscores the ongoing enforcement of immigration regulations against those who violate the law.
