American forces have suffered their first fatalities from enemy fire since March, with three US service members killed and a fourth missing and presumed dead in the escalating war with Iran.
Private Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, was killed in action on July 17 during an enemy attack at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, Jordan. She had just graduated from Hebron High School in the spring of 2025. Her decision to serve after graduation speaks volumes of her character, according to her school district.
First Lieutenant Tyler Feehan, 25, was killed the next day during an Iranian attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, which is located in Jordan and home to American forces. Feehan, who was raised in Hawaii and assigned to Fort Bragg, was just 25 years old when he made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms.
The US military has now confirmed that at least 17 American soldiers have been killed in the war so far. The deaths of Feehan and Gonzales have been met with an outpouring of support from their communities, with Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth paying tribute to the fallen soldiers.
Hegseth said, "Godspeed, heroes. Their sacrifice only stiffens our resolve." The Lewisville Independent School District also released a statement praising Gonzales' service and character, saying that her decision to serve after graduation speaks volumes of her character.
The US President has vowed that Iran will pay "many times over" for each American soldier killed. He has directed his administration to take action against Iran, with Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Daniel Caine among those to receive the directive.
