Transgender Man Arrested in Fatal Homicide Investigation

The Laguna Beach Police Department has made an arrest in connection with a murder that took place at a residence in the city. Angela Caprioli, 61, was found dead on Monday, with the police arriving at the scene in the late morning. The incident was initially described as suspicious and domestic in nature, but the investigation is ongoing.

On Thursday, police arrested Caprioli's son, Safford Wolfson, 36, on suspicion of murder. Wolfson was booked into Orange County Jail. Wolfson identifies as a "trans girl" and has a social media presence, where he describes himself as a "Trans girl looking for fun in LA." His Instagram account lists him as a "Professional smoker, trans girl extraordinaite."

TikTok videos show Wolfson dancing in dresses, miniskirts, crop tops, and underwear. The videos raise concerns about the mental health and well-being of Wolfson, who is also morbidly obese. Neighbors described Wolfson as reclusive, keeping to himself while occasionally stepping outside to smoke or play guitar.

Caregivers were reportedly present at the residence around the clock, but the investigation remains ongoing with assistance from the Orange County Crime Lab. No motive has been released, and the cause of death has not been publicly detailed. The case is not isolated, with multiple instances of transgender individuals accused or convicted of killing their parents in recent years.

In 2016, Andrea Balcer, who identified as transgender, stabbed both parents and the family dog to death in Winthrop, Maine. Balcer was sentenced to 40 years in prison. In June 2024, Mia Bailey, a biological man who identifies as a woman, fatally shot his parents in their Washington City, Utah home. Bailey later told investigators he decided to kill them after his mother interfered with a planned gender transition surgery.

Another case involved 18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar, a transgender person who killed his mother and half-brother at their home in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, Canada, before carrying out a mass shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School that left six others dead. The mother had previously posted online defending transgender rights.
