Sheriff Investigates Nancy Guthrie Disappearance, Pursues Suspect

A manhunt has been launched in Arizona after a woman was sexually assaulted during a home invasion that occurred about 30 miles from the site where Nancy Guthrie disappeared six months ago.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office, which is investigating both incidents, says there is no indication the cases are related.

The assault took place shortly after 2:40 a.m. Monday at a residence in the 12,000 block of West Vegas Drive, near Taylor Lane and Ajo Way. Deputies from the San Xavier District responded after receiving a report of an assault.

Authorities say the intruder entered through an unlocked door, physically and sexually assaulted the victim, attempted to burglarize the home, and then fled. No arrests have been made.

The suspect is described as either Hispanic or White, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, thin‑built, with gray in his beard, and last seen wearing an oversized green shirt.

The incident occurred roughly 30 miles from the Catalina Foothills residence where 84‑year‑old Nancy Guthrie, mother of a national television co‑anchor, vanished on February 1. That case remains under investigation by the FBI and the sheriff’s department.

The FBI director previously suggested a four‑day delay before federal agents joined the Guthrie investigation may have compromised video evidence. The sheriff disputed that claim, stating the FBI was notified promptly and worked alongside local investigators.

In the Guthrie case, an unidentified person seen outside the home was described as 5 feet 9 to 5 feet 10 inches tall. Authorities are urging nearby residents to review any security or neighborhood surveillance footage that could help identify the suspect.

Anyone with information about the recent home invasion is asked to call 911 or submit an anonymous tip to 88‑CRIME.
