The U.S. President Donald Trump revealed a little-known fact about his relationship with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney during a visit to the White House by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
During the event, Trump admitted that he and Prime Minister Carney had a bet over the outcome of last year's World Series, which saw the Toronto Blue Jays face off against the Dodgers in a thrilling seven-game series.
Trump didn't go into specifics about the wager, but acknowledged that he wasn't confident in his team's victory at times during the series, which ultimately ended in heartbreak for Canada's team.
Trump described the World Series as "a hell of a series," and noted that he stayed up to watch the epic Game 3, which went to 18 innings and saw the Dodgers emerge victorious with a 6-5 win.
The American leader also praised Shohei Ohtani, the Dodgers' star player, likening him to the legendary Babe Ruth and highlighting his impressive array of accomplishments, including collecting his third straight unanimous league MVP award and a franchise record 55 home runs.
Trump spoke briefly with Dodgers manager Dave Roberts before the event and was unaware that his team boasted the best record in baseball at 65-38.
Roberts also told the president that his team is "going for a three-peat," referring to their previous World Series win in 2024.
Trump welcomed the team back to the White House and expressed his hope to see them again next year, perhaps with a White House invitation for the Toronto Blue Jays if they win the World Series.
