A 63‑year‑old man with terminal cancer finally married his long‑time partner after a 20‑year wait, following a diagnosis that gave him only weeks to live.
The couple met 24 years ago through their ten children in Basildon, Essex. They postponed wedding plans for years, prioritizing their children’s needs over a celebration.
When the man received news of his limited time, he decided to proceed with the ceremony. The wedding took place on June 18 at Colchester Hospital.
The event was attended by family and friends, including their ten children and eighteen grandchildren. Hospital staff organized the ceremony in under a week, coordinating details and support for the couple.
The bride expressed elation at finally celebrating their marriage with loved ones. She noted her husband’s excitement and perseverance leading up to the day.
After the ceremony, the husband was exhausted but relieved. The couple now lives at home, enjoying a quieter life together.
The former electroplater praised the hospital team for their hard work and dedication in making the day possible. Staff members also highlighted the unique nature of holding a wedding in a hospital setting.
